The Passap Handbook Beginner Course teaches the use of the Passap double bed machines: the pink, the DM 80, and with a conversion chart, the 6000. Each basic machine is capable of all operations without any attachments. Attachments such as the Deco, color changer, and Forma just make operations automatic.
The Beginner Course is broken into two sections. Using diagrams and photographs, Section I teaches the basics to all knitting—various ways of casting on, casting off, increasing, decreasing, shaping by short rows or graduations, and knitting to gauge. Instructions for simple but attractive garments—a plain ribbed hat, fancy-stitch hat and scarf, raglan baby sweater, tot’s crew neck sweater with set-in sleeves and beautifully attached neck ribbing, tubular baby pants, fairisle hat, and ladies’ skirt and vest to gauge—introduce these basic operations. All chapters give suggested weights of yarn and use repetitive instructions to alleviate the need for looking up methods already introduced. Additional notes complement each chapter.
Section II, a reference chapter, gives detailed explanation of how the machine achieves all operations; however, garments can be knitted successfully without understanding these concepts.
